Better to Suffer an Injustice Than to Do One

Better to Suffer an Injustice, Than to Do One

Matters with Mark came to a head in a dramatic domino effect of unexpected events.

Within days, an angry Mark sought Rachelle out, in the library.  “We need to talk!was his angry introduction.

Rachelle resisted leaving the library, rather than make a scene.  “What's wrong, Mark?she asked, quietly.  Let Mark be the one to raise his voice, she silently decided.

What the hell did you tell Coach?”  Simple people can be be out witted, but not reliably deceived.  Occam's Razor prevents them from becoming paralyzed by analysis.  Mark knew that Rachelle was a skilled social manipulator, and to him, that was enough evidence.

Despite Mark's confidence, Rachelle knew better than to let it pass for proof.  “Mark, what are you saying?  Did Coach say I ratted you out to a teacher?”

Mark's volume matched his passion.  He used the word for dog breeders.  “No, you lying vixen, he DIDN'T.  But ever since I kicked you to the curb, he's benched me and treated me like an idiot!  No one respects me anymore, and I just KNOW you're the one behind it all!”  His crescendo had already drawn the attention of the staff, and one was calling school security while another was making a bee line toward the sparring opponents.

As soon as Rachelle knew there were mere seconds left (before their discussion was public,) she moved to make her point.  In an even, deliberate tone, she asked,Can you hear me, Mark?”  She met his eye with a six gun stare of her own.  She could not forget that Mark had been the one to leave his permanent mark on her.

Confusion momentarily numbed him to his rage.Yes...”  He paused to listen.

Now YOU'RE not a virgin,she spit.

Mark's roar of rage was likely heard in the next county.  Students turned in shock at the language he poured out upon his adversary, as he attacked the focus of his rage.

Rachelle would be filing assault charges.
